Illustrate Your Conference

Everyone loves illustrated books and articles. But did you know you can illustrate real life as well? Not only are illustrated experiences engaging and memorable--they're also really cool. A graphic recorder at your conference gives it the feel of an ongoing creative project in which everyone present is included. During each seminar or breakout session, attendees watch the recorder create a chart which reflects what's happening in real time, increasing their understanding and engagement. As the day continues, completed charts begin to fill conference spaces, whether displayed on easels in the lobby or simply leaning against the  walls. They eventually form an immersive visual story of what's taken place over the course of the day, illustrating it like a book.

Participants are often surprised by how real-time illustrations enhance their experience. Many describe a sense of awe and feel both inspired and grateful. At every conference I work at, attendees inevitably come up to thank me for my work and tell me, over and over again, that yes, it's “so cool!”.

Graphic Recording at #Realcollege 2018

I was honored in September to do graphic recording at the #Realcollege 2018 conference at Temple University in Philadelphia. Hundreds of attendees from around the country gathered for two days of discussion about how to address the needs of low-income college students. The positive energy was palpable and it was really great to hear from so many folks how much they appreciated the contribution graphic recording made. Let's talk about making some graphic magic at your conference!

Breakthrough Visuals on TV

It's always nice to be asked for your expert advice, so I was pretty psyched to get a call a few weeks ago from Fox 29 reporter Hank Flynn, who was looking for some mascot ideas for SEPTA, the transportation authority here in Philadelphia. You can see the resulting segment here, complete with a visit to my studio in the segment's last third. The feature is funny(the final idea is a play on Gritty, the hugely popular new mascot for the Flyers), but if you're serious about developing a mascot for your business or organization, give me a call!
